Independence Day

It’s that time again, time to celebrate Rhode Island’s declaration of their independence from Great Britain. Last year we posted images of the broadside announcement of the breakup.

More information about RI Independence Day is available at the History Channel’s website, among other places.

For years I have been wondering why we haven’t been keeping May 4th, Rhode Island Independence Day, as a holiday. Since we were the first, this should definitely be observed. I think VJ Day, which only Rhode Island “celebrates” should finally be let go and Rhode Island Independence Day replace it. It’s something we should be very proud of.
